Austin was born Thursday, July 17, 2003 at 5:00 A.M. with an APGAR of 8,
9. He weighed in at 5 pounds, 5 ounces and was 18 1/2 inches long. He had a head full of dark brown hair and beautiful
blue eyes. He was four and a half weeks early so he was considered premature. Because he was so early, he
had a difficult time eating. So he was in the NICU with an I.V. to provide fluids and was being fed through an N.G. tube. Austin
started out breastfeeding and taking a bottle. Our main concern was that he eat....we didn't much care how. He
also had just a bit of jaundice. He was on a "Billie Pad" (a pad with a heated light...I thought he looked like
a little glow worm when he was on it) to help clear the jaundice from his system.
He was allowed
to go home when he was eating on his own, gaining weight and the jaundice was gone. As it turned
out he was discharged from the hospital on July 29th. We were so happy to have him home!!!
The two pictures above are of Austin in the hospital. The one below was taken his
first day at home.
